Pro-Keds Rock

Recently I was walking past a trendy NYC shoe store when out of the corner of my eye I spotted a pair of hi-top Rocca Pro Keds. Seeing these brought me back to 3rd grade when the only shoes I would put on were my pro-keds in blue (I know I am aging myself). When I cajoled, i.e. screamed at the top of my lungs, my mother to buy those sneaks, I considered myself cool, a member of the in-crowd. In reality I was anything but; I was the kid who could barely throw a ball and who was always chosen last. Those Pro Keds made me forget my plight in life and allowed me to live in a total state of delusion. Did you know that Pro-Keds was created by Keds as their basketball line? The first Pro-Keds were the ultra cool Classic Royal. Now years later, Damon Dash has decided to recreate the line with these trendsetting sneakers...now my daughter is the one screaming for them.

I love Greedy Genius! I will never forget the day last year when my bud, D, sent me an email telling me to check out this new brand of sneaks. Not only were they unique, with a true sense of street style, each pair resembled a true piece of art. The Love/Hate sneakers in red were my first and it was all uphill from there - I cherish my The King of Sneakers pair (can't even wear them). Check out these Jolly Ranchers available on karmaloop.com.

All the GG sneakers are limited quanitites.

Keds with Funk?

Okay so I have to admit that I am a sneaker bigot. After spending most of my illustrious and boring childhood in white keds, I can not bring myself to put them on as an adult...that was until my daughter showed me the coolest pairs on delias.com. Ballet slipper styled with rainbows, stars and cool shades - these Keds simply rock. Fashionable, cute and priced at 40. totally reasonable. While my Nikes and Pumas may freak when they find themselves sitting next to a pair of Keds, my feet will totally rock. Check them out!

Miss Piggy Adidacolor

For the last three weeks I have been absolutely obsessed with one pair of sneakers in my collection - I keep walking by them, removing them from their Adidas box, carefully inspecting them, and putting them back into their resting place. I have not put them on for fear of destroying any aspect of their beautiful pink silk skin. Or is it for fear of being teased? After all we are talking about a pair of baby pink satin Adidacolor Miss Piggy sneaks. They are the epitome of all that I love - pink, satin, a beloved heroine on their sides. One of the many Adidacolor releases this year, these are simply adorable and yet almost unwearable. They evoke a sense of total abandonment to childhood (I don't know about the rest of you but I love the Muppets). They remind one of a certain playfulness that is lost once adulthood is found. Do I wear them or do they remain asleep in their box?

Blog Away - I am the Queen of Sneakers

The other day I told my boss a secret - that I had collected over the last ten years over 400 pairs of sneakers. Remarkably he didn't laugh, even after I told him that I was paying a huge monthly fee for my 10x12 storage unit where many of my beloved sneaks lay in their boxes (along with my other pairs of shoes). He said, "Wow that is pretty cool," and I happen to totally agree. As I go through the boxes that remain in my home I feel the thrill of the chase wash over me. Limited edition sneakers from France, one of kind sneakers by way of Tokyo, designer sneakers that are numbered. These are what moves my soul and fills my heart. This blog will honor all that glory in the sneaker, that revel in the athletic shoe, that honor the history of the greatest type of shoe ever created. So journey with me as we find the coolest trends out there and honor the trends that came before. I am the Queen of the Sneaker!
